Basic rules on how to make a good cup of coffee
By cameciob
Most of us drink coffee every day. Sometime we pick up a cup of Joe at our favourite coffee shop or gas station but often we brew it ourselves, at home.
Over time, making the morning coffee becomes a routine, we do the same thing every single day without thinking that it may be different, better way.
Seven hundreds of coffee history taught us that a perfect Java is possible and here is how to make the best cup of coffee.
The Coffee
Start with fresh roasted coffee.
Forget your grocery store, for this one you are going to buy from your local coffee roaster.Go to their store and smell the coffee, feel it in your hand and even chew different beans to find out the flavour you like.
Avoid the dark roast as this coffee loses its delicate aromas, instead get a medium or light roast that lets you get the full taste. This coffee is only few bucks more expensive then the one sold by the food chains. You need to find the one you like the best.
The Coffee maker
Get a good coffee maker.
You’ll hear that yo can use any coffee maker to get the same result. This is simply not true. Not all coffee machines are made equal, some of them are better. You’ll need one that hits the water at 200 degrees and evenly spreads it over the coffee grounds.
Before brewing, make sure your coffee maker is clean.

Grindind
Grind your beans as fine as you can for the type of coffee you make: medium to coarse for drip, percolator and french press, extra fine for espresso and turkish coffee. Also, grind only as much as you need and just before brewing.
Praparing the coffee
The coffee ratio to water is the next important step.
It is recommended to use 2 tablespoon for every cup of water. The more coffee, the stronger and flavourful the cup. If you use less you are more likely to waste the fresh roasted beans you just got. Water is also important if you want to make a perfect cup. If your water tastes bad then your need to filter it or buy bottled water.
When everything is done, you can add a teaspoon of sugar if you like to enhance aroma. But try not to use any sugar substitutes because they have their own taste and as your coffee is not going to be the same.
These are basic rules on how to make the best cup of coffee. But there’s more you can do.
Store your coffee in a air tight container to preserve its aroma. If possible, buy fresh roasted beans as often as you can, maybe two times a week. Do not boil the water if you make a pour over coffee, instead heat it just before the boiling point, when air bubbles are rapidly raising to the top.
Now that you learned how to make the best cup of coffee remember that the most important thing is to find the coffee blend you really like.

Bretsuki, thanks for stopping to my hub. I see you do drink a lot of coffee and to have a good coffee maker is important. I wrote a hub about, It is called 7 steps in buying a coffee maker. Good luck on your new purchase and thanks for commenting.
Two tablespoons of coffee per cup of water is a bit strong for me. Even 1-1 is strong.
good hub.
Great information, thanks CAMECIOB! I love my coffee black. No sugar, no nothing. Many years ago, I learned a tip from the owner of a 5-Star NY restaurant; a smidgeon of salt added to the coffee before brewing and always use filtered water. “Good to the last drop!”
So true - you do have to engage yourself in the process. And once you know what coffee is supposed to taste like you will never buy that useless stuff in the supermarket.
Love love love your wonderful coffee hubs.

Sometimes a nice variation on coffee is Mexican coffee, you make a cup of cinnamon tea, and add this to the water you will be using to brew the coffee. Sort of like having a cinnamon roll with your coffee without the calories. :) It is a refreshing alternative.
Hi Peter...and thank you for reading my hub. I know some people do not drink strong coffee but, Peter, coffee is good strong.
Lenore, wow ...i never manage a black coffee. I love sugar :). But I'm going to try your salt trick next time. I know my mom puts salt in her coffee sometimes. Thanks for sharing.
BkCreative, you are so right about being engaged in the process. Coffee making sould be a ritual, like the tea ritual. And about the coffee....Is it just me or is getting harder and harder to find good coffee these days? Thanks for stopping.
Bretsuki, great tip. I'll try this next time. maybe I'll do it with my iced coffee I use to make in the summer. Thanks for sharing.
I can smell the aroma of good coffee.

Hello cameciob, I really liked this hub. I love coffee, and drink about three pots a day. Plus the occasional Starbucks or Seattles Best. I will be in the market for a new coffee maker soon, my present one is not as good as it once was. So your tips are very timely. Thanks,
