If you compare the two charts you'll notice that the new Zodiac has 13 (thirteen) signs while the old one has only 12. The new Zodiac's signs are shorter while the old one are around 30 days, on average.
The new Zodiac sign is called Ophiuchus and it has been placed between Scorpio and Sagittarius. in fact, Scorpio is so short that it may disappear all together when the next new zodiac will come, 3000 years from now.
Ophiuchus, or Serpentarius, was known before as a Zodiac sign but rarely used. Now, it is about to gain a new reputation.
Each zodiac Sign has its own characteristics. It is not clear yet if they will follow the sign in its new astrological place or they will keep the old location, being switched to the new sign. Astrologers and mystics have a lot to work from now on. Besides, the old Zodiac has its corespondents in other Zodiacs, like the Chinese one. Now, these will change too.
Some people are very serious when it comes to astrological signs. It is believed that the alignment of the stars on a certain moment can contribute to success or failure, can favour or not a certain action or predict the future. The relation between a humble human being and the stars is determined at birth, when the stars are in a unique arrangement. That is the signs that every one of us has been born under. Hi BkCreative, I, too, changed the zodiac signs. Fortunately, my new sign has lots of features that I admire on people...I never thought to be my case too :).
And yes, you have a valid point, why now.
The livescience has published these facts some years ago, I'm not sure the exact year but I remember reading about it in 2009. Now I saw the news about a proffessor in Minnesota and the Fox 9 local news channel made a big deal about it. As today there are millions searches and results on Internet vs. just tens of thousands 2 days ago. Hmmm, I agree.

So, if were born on May 13 that would make me a TaurAriesus, or vice versa. Stupid computers can't even get the dates right without running them together. Computers are very helpful, but they are only as smart as the programmers. Technology is great, but bricks are still put in place one at time.
The zodiac signs will most likely be changed again in a hundred years or so. Why not leave well enough alone? Besides, would someone just show me one scientist that was alive 3000 years ago to know how the Earth was sitting on its axis.

T Webb, I understand your dilema, the 2 signs together, though, would make a vey strong Zodiac, aka personality :). Your true sign will be condition by your ascendat (or the rising star on the date you were born). In the ancient times the zodiac was built around the idea that the sun, the moon and other planets were moving around the planet Earth, which now we know that the planet Earth itself is moving. The heliocetric system (that the sun is fix and planets move around it) was first proposed by Aristarchus, a greek mathematician from Samoa. Nobody denied that someother astronomers would not hav thought of it before.

People who were born on January 20th, which is exactly today, will be moving from Aquarius to Sagittarius, and bypassing Capricorn.

Actually the new zodiac starts with the sign of Capricorn (Jan. 20 to Feb. 16), then it goes to Aquarius. The old zodiac started with Capricorn also but on December 22 to January 19. That is a month between the new and the old Capricorn.
If you were born before these changes were made, you stay the same sign. you should mention that cuz people are getting all worked up about it. And I think, that the old one was right, because everyone has the attributes of their sign, the old one, and have no relation with the new.

Here is a very short description for Libra:
Libra is a very complex zodiac because the sign actualy means "balance". A person born as a libra would face this duality of equilibrium and instability. Very interesting! I was a virgo from the old zodiac and now a leo from the new. I have always had characteristics from both but more from the virgo then the leo. Maybe it will be a good time to be a new me :)

In addition to my last comment, I feel it necessary to mention that we are who we are, not what our sign depicts. It adds no further justification to a theory, if it appears to be in your favour, i.e. you are now of a sign that you wished to be. You're still the same person, regardless.
I tell you now, with an honest mind, that all the signs are of equal to myself, I have no preference.
YET, I know myself to a scorpio within. I'd say even if I was born march 19th, there is scorpio within me.

@ Harriet, this whole story gives some of us a rare oportunity to "choose" who we are in terms of zodiac. If our sign changed, the we can opt to choose the old zodiac and keep our sign or we can go with the new zodiac and have a new sign, unknown to us, maybe better. With this opportunity comes the chance to realy change ourself in order to meet the good side ao a new sign. I hope this helps. It looks that you know who you are and that's the most important thing.

DevBlue, I have been a fan of zodiac ever since I was a kid. (I also wanted to be a star reader...which never happened). But your theory is very interesting. However, at this moment, it is largely accepted that January 1st is the first day of a new year and our social life if built around it. The same with the new zodiac.

This article should be corrected to 'return to the original zodiac' and not a new zodiac.
There are many theories for the leaving off this 13th sign, but it would be novel in size trying to explain everything.
Apart from the occult superstition and mythical tale surrounding the serpent bearer (Ophiuchus)itself, it had been left out for two main reasons. (1) Because of our modern calendar (12 months, 12 signs) and (2) people like the Zodiac the way it is and it would be extremely costly to change how it is now. As usual, it's money.
The zodiac dates shown with each sign are the days that the Sun happens to be in a certain star constellation and is what determines what sign you are to be linked. The most common Zodiac in use, the Tropical Zodiac, (which for the most part is the one that is used by newspapers and other such establishments), was created about 2000 years Ago.
There has always been twelve archetype symbols, from prehistoric times well before the occult groups misunderstood them or modern science changed them.
Recent attempts by modern science in creating a "thirteenth" constellation of the Zodiac, the Ophiuchus, has created a great rift with modern astrologers, who if they accept it, could not justify why their charts are so out of alignment.
This creates quite a dilemma for the astrologer to explain why all the "Signs of the Zodiac" are off by about one month, resulting in inaccuracy of their horoscope charting. As it will for anyone who uses it to forecast or predict the future in that manner.
The "sun sign," system has been out of kilter for the past few thousand years. Thus all those who believe they were born under a certain astrological sun sign, may not realize that it is not possible. When the Babylonians chose the twelve equally spaced "signs," each 30 degrees wide, even then they only approximately coincided with the constellations as to views of astronomers today.
As seen in the 1990's the sun, due to the precession of the equinoxes, has shifted to be two constellations off of its original position claimed by the Babylonian astrologers of 5th century B.C. Hence the push to "return" to the original 13 sign system.

if you were born before the change then you stay what you were. if you are born after the new signs then you go by the new signs. kinda obvious. at least to me it is. common sense people, so don't complain about how you are a different sign when you're not. i take pride in being a taurus. even though some of the stuff is not accurate to me it's not a big deal because i was born on the 26th of april. the power of taurus isn't at it's full strength until the 27th due to being lapped over with aries for the first week amd lapped over with gemini for the final week. which makes sense because i have some qualities of aries. thank you for for this page, it was very helpful.
I knew I had very few sagitarius characteristics but I am full blown capricorn . I was born on the cusp which would make me a sagicorn but I am more capricorn than anything else. and my chinese sign matches with my zodiac. in the chinese calendar I was born year of the dragon. which is more accurate with my zodiac seeing i do have the characteristics.

sam, nothing stays the same forever. People change and get old, weather has seasons, animals go extinct...so the zodiac, because the cosmos changes as well...as the planet.
the zodiac only affects your sign when your born, so the zodiac may change just like the cosmos and the earths axis, but your original sign dosent change so if your a virgo, or a tarus, but the new zodiac says your somthing else, you dont change, just the zodiac changes

I would be a Gemini now - doesn't seem right since I have such Cancerian attributes. When I worked in Korea I was told - based on the lunar calendar - then I was a Leo.
